Mission and Purpose

Aldersgate Mission and Purpose

As part of the mission statement of Aldersgate United Methodist Church; we affirm the mission set forth to us inThe Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church:

         121. Rationale for Our Mission
The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the
transformation of the world by proclaiming the good news of God's grace
and by exemplifying Jesus' command to love God and neighbor,
thus seeking the fulfillment of God's reign and realm in the world...

Aldersgate prides itself on being a “Caring and Affirming Christ-Centered Fellowship, Lay-Led and Community Focused.” With this mission statement in mind, Aldersgate believes that it is very important to be active in both church and outreach. Jesus stated, “for I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

At church, you can find a variety of activities to be involved in. Throughout the entire year, Bible studies of all kinds and for all ages are active. You can attend study with your children, join a “Disciple” program, or study alongside others.

You will also find the United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men having fellowship, meals, and providing service to our community. You may be involved in preparing meals for those staying in our local homeless shelter, building ramps for the disabled, entering the local jail or prison for ministry, or making prayer shawls. They are very active both inside and out of the church and you can be sure that help is always needed.

Aldersgate UMC also partners with Graham Elementary School providing support for the teachers and students. We provide weekly food for the backpack program along with providing mentors for students needing that extra personal time.

As part of the United Methodist Church, Aldersgate is part of Missional Network 12 in the Catawba Valley District. We are comprised of 12 churches who join together to form a larger body of Christ, so that by combining resources we are better equipped to engage the world. One of Missional Network 12’s missions was to become a partner with our local Habitat for Humanity. The churches raised money and volunteered to help build a house for a local family. What better way to show love than to give of our time and energy for someone in need.

If you like to play and have fun, 3-F (Faith, Fun, Fellowship) basketball may be just want you are looking for. Every Tuesday, we gather together to shoot a few hoops, have fellowship with those we don’t get to see every day, and share in our faith journey together.

Aldersgate is involved in many more activities that are not listed; please visit our ministries page for more information about life inside and outside the church.
